I Am Sam (2001)

I'll probably have my critic card revoked, but I just can't rain on this movie. The script's good, Penn's great, and I can see why this was a star-making performance for Fanning. It's all very dubious and other elements aren't as strong, but I think that ought to count for less.

I Am Sam (2001)

Sean Penn may be a hell of an actor but here he does the old awards bait trick of playing mentally challenged and forgets to actually be in a good movie while doing it.
