Prometheus (2012)

Visually stunning for sure. But don't expect much from the story. Instead of making us contemplate whatever idea it was supposed to share, this film ended up confusing me and left me hanging.

This movie should be stripped of it's title, literally. What a fantastic name for a story that would have complexity, profundity, intelligence, gravity, etc. Sadly, this film has none of that. Fassbender is great, yes, but he would have been great in "Dude, Where's My Car?".

Watched all 4 Alien movies leading up to this, so was pumped to be back in "the Alien Universe". Who is the only actor to be killed by (1) an Alien, (2) a Terminator, and (3) a Predator? Hint: "We're on an express elevator to hell; going down!

This survives only on the collective hopes and dreams of those of us that wanted to see another Alien. It plays out like it was written by 15 people, none of whom had ever seen Alien, and none of whom had ever written anything requiring more plot than a toothpaste commercial.

This did not live up to my expectations, nor the standards Ridley set with Alien. Despite the special effects, and Fassbender's performance, this was a let down of intergalactic proportions. All I have to say is, move over Meredith Vickers (C Theron), where's my escape pod?!

Prometheus passes; it's pimped-out and perty. Complex crushing questions continue at conclusion... kidding. Fassbender fills this footnote.

How good is Fassbender in this? I was expecting more links to "Alien" but was not unhappy that there wasn't. The story was pretty intriguing and all the unanswered questions that remained at the end just makes me hope there's a sequel.

Sci-fi is a bit of a rarity these days however when it's done right it makes you wish to see it done more. I believe this was done right and don't understand the complaints levied against it as it was straight forward and interesting. A welcome return to the alien universe.

Though visually stunning and full of some great individual scenes, Prometheus, as a whole, is a complete mess. Too many half baked ideas, too many things going on at once, and not a single compelling (human) character. See it anyway, but don't expect anything close to Alien.

With the exception of the incredible visuals, Prometheus was extremely disappointing. The characters were dry and the story was filled with many holes throughout. The only redeeming factors were Michael Fassbender's performance and the final few seconds of the film.

We all know it was beautiful, and so it is worth experiencing regardless of plot. Unfortunately, it was as beautiful as it was sloppily written and characters simply don't behave coherently or realistically. With that alone the root magic of the early franchise is sapped.

I left feeling like the spent more time trying to make it feel like 'Alien' than actually developing the story. Visually stunning, with a great tone and perfect pace, it was immersive, but filled with two-dimensional characters and half a story.

Story, great. Visuals, stunning. Questions unanswered. Want, more.
