Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

Characters trying to overcome their struggle. Truth thrown at each other's face. Full of awkward moments. This movie is charming. The actors performances make up for some weaknesses in the storyline, especially the introduction. Also, holy sh*t did Chris Tucker gain weight!

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

Well, Hollywood has done it again. They've engineered another slick product completely devoid of any real, human emotion. Instead, they've shovelled it so full of saccharine, kindergarten sentimentality that even supposedly jaded critics are fooled.

I had fun with this. The introduction was awkward and somewhat bizarre, but you begin to appreciate that this is not only intentional, but the whole point. Nails home the idea that intelligence, love, and mental health are not necessarily mutually exclusive things.

Loved this movie. More than just a rom-com. Great chemistry between Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. Witty, clever dialogue and surprisingly funny but also had real grit and emotion. Left me feeling really good.

Great performances by The leads elevate this film and make the mental conditions of each, the heart of the film, believable and engrossing. I especially like a good dance scene, but there was some degree of closure attained that I thought might have been better left understated.

If your a fan of ballroom dancing and a hot girl in yoga pants this is the movie for you. Overall, good movie with better acting. Coop even manages to flex his acting chops. Story gets too Hollywood formulaic in the end with some ridiculous plot lines. Chris Tucker Lives!!

Didn't finish it. Early on I thought it might prove to be a thoughtful treatment of mental illness, but it quickly slides into cliched lameness. Recalls "Rachel Getting Married", which I liked a lot more.

Good movie. Will this propel Bradley Cooper into more "Oscar" calibre movies? Not sure, but he was much better than I expected. Feel this movie will play on TV during long weekends and holidays for years to come.

Nominated for every major Oscar category, which absolutely blows my mind. This movie was good at best. Very good cast (see Jacki Weaver in Animal Kingdom!), but nothing spectacular about the performances. The story was alright, but cookie-cutter predictable and cliche.

SLP's greatest strength is the way it blends David O. Russell's neurotic humour with the Hollywood rom-com formula. You might know the story, but with such exceptional writing and acting, it feels fresh and genuine, and you can't help root for a happy ending.
