The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009)

This Swedish adaptation does a great job of trimming the fat. There's hardly anything in the way of fillers, and it's also pretty devoid of the Hollywood gung-ho you get with the Fincher remake. Terrific, understated performances also add to this version's superiority.
