Synopsis:

Wreck-It Ralph is the 9-foot-tall, 643-pound villain of an arcade video game named Fix-It Felix Jr., in which the game's titular hero fixes buildings that Ralph destroys. Wanting to prove he can be a good guy and not just a villain, Ralph escapes his game and lands in Hero's Duty, a first-person shooter where he helps the game's hero battle against alien invaders. Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

Movies that are safe for the whole family are a very mixed bag but this was appealing on many levels. I suspect my age range, 30's, would be the ones who will get the most out of it as there were so many callbacks to classic games from my youth.

First half was a hackneyed Pixar copycat, stuffed with all-too-obvious call-outs to all things vintage and ironically funny about video games. The second half had some actual heart and used the universe in an intelligent/moderately original way. In the end, I was enjoying myself.

A truly good movie, even by Disney standards. As a person who has seen nearly every movie by Disney standards. In my opinion however, the best on-screen performance was by John C. Reilly, as it was quite believable in a children's movie. A definite must see

It almost pissed me off how hard this movie tried to appeal to everyone. Any reference made had to be accessible by almost everybody (as long as you've played a Mario once or twice you're set). Still, its pretty good and not just a shitty panderfest. Worth your time.
