Intruders (2016)

there's a lot of movies named Intruders but this one is probably the best. It's really funny at some parts, and i love how Mcallyculcan looks in it.

They Look Like People (2016)

Very affecting, I'm not exactly sure how to put it, but while watching I was more than a viewer, I was part of the movie's mass. Engrossing and terrifying. I felt digested by the end of it.

Vile (2011)

The movie isn't really good or anything, but it was interesting to see how the worked around their extremely frugal budget, some of the things they did (to save money) were actually pretty impressive, but they couldn't hide everything.

Creep (2014)

Wow o Wow, I don't think ive ever seen a movie this discomforting that was this easy to watch. The ending didn't strike me as interesting at first, but then hit me like a ton of bricks. Actually almost made me cry... Surprise hit of the year!

Not that great honestly maybe 61, but it shows that you don't have to be the "best" at something as long as you are the "first" at it.

The Other Guys (2010)

A very mentionable thing about the movie is aside from maybe one or two awkward misses all the jokes are almost completely harmless and are held at almost no audience's expense. Which makes it impressively funny if not hilarious.

This is just the name of a song ive been listening to, Im pretty sure its made by a gay guy and I like it, so I pass my priviledge test for the year I just need to find a song I like by a woman and Ill be in the clear

Lars and the Real Girl (2007)

Pretty good movie, but the lesson i got is that if you are handsome you can get away with ANYTHING and look good. i bet Ryan Gosling could go down to K-Mart finger-fucking a Fleshlight on each digit and still moisten every girl he walked by. Jealous as heck.

What We Do in the Shadows (2014)

The Social Network (2010)

To me its not about the internet at all. It's really about people getting into adult situations before they have the maturity to deal with them, which makes for incredibly interesting characters you can easily sympathize with even when they are jerkish. One of my favs.

Blackfish (2013)

I went in expecting some "save da whales" shit. Pretty much got what I expected. No new information gleaned other than shady corporation are still being shady. Still the fact that I still enjoyed it meant it probably got something right. Well-made at the least.

Whiplash (2014)

I hold drumming and jazz both in the same category where I can't even care enough about them to hate either. Just neutral gray disinterest. Yet this is the most engaging, heart-pounding, red-hot film of the year. Insane. 96 but in more than 480p I imagine it would be higher so...
March 23, 2015
79

Snowpiercer (2013)

It is very comparable to Dragon Ball Z. Extremely stupid, canyon-sized plot holes, like... SHAMEFUL plot errors! Though through all of that it is compelling, has some interesting ideas, and you do care what happens next. So thumbs up I guess.
March 23, 2015
65

Foxcatcher (2014)

I don't think I've ever unironically used the term "too subtle", but this is. It kind of reminds me of a Cohen brother film but with less dialogue (actually make that NO dialogue). Acting was still good with what little they had to work with.
March 22, 2015
92

Interstellar (2014)

Nolan didn't go dumb on this movie, its just so grandiose and majestic that any tiny hiccup seemed like a jutting spike. I would say he hasn't gotten this ambitious since Memento (or ever). Not perfect, but parts of it were, and that's good enough for me.
March 21, 2015
86

Nightcrawler (2014)

Guess I'll review it now. It's rare for a "realistic" character to be as compelling as the story associated. If this were a story about just Nightcrawling or just about Lou this wouldn't be half the film. A rare marriage that makes this film unmissable(if not flawless).

Predestination (2014)

I could smell the cum on the manuscript from the post-writing-a-movie-about-paradoxes jack-off session. For how fucking infuriating the plot line is, its honestly not that horribly put together, still I could never endorse anyone watching this.

Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)

Bad in ways that don't matter. If you love action and can ignore childish plot points with mediocre dialogue then it's an incredible watch. Samuel Jackson was definitely the standout, but he might have had the easiest role to be shine in.

American Sniper (2014)

ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽_•︻ ┻̿═━一 The entire film is extremely interesting (at least to a war movie novice viewer), but I have no idea who let Clint make that sandstorm scene. Also Beefy Bradley is a tantalizing metamorphosis.

Harmontown (2014)

I like it more than my sister mainly because I'm a Harmon-aholic (I just can't live without Harmon-ahol) I'm a pretty biased judge but if you like the guy you've probably already seen it and if you don't know who he is its not good enough to care about.

The Babadook (2014)

It really feels less like a horror flick and more just like a story with horror elements, which sounds jumbled, but its definitely not balls to the walls horror. Very tasteful with incredible performances. I'm like 90% sure this movie will be a pretty big thing. Check it out m8s

Trance (2013)

Not my favorite movie by a long shot, but it does solidify Danny Boyle as my favorite director. He just knows how to set up scenes so you are never bored. If he ever pairs up with a top-tier screenwriter I'll cream my cackeys.

Synecdoche, New York (2008)

Geez, I usually love the Kauf. He always has these fascinating ideas, but always managed to make them accessible and fun to near-anyone. He really let go of his balloon on this one. Though aside from being confusing and extremely unclear, still kinda neat.

Terms and Conditions May Apply (2013)

Fairly interesting to anyone, but it is mildly interspersed with preteen-tumblr bullshit (spongebob clips, harry potter, le rage faces) that I'm sure will make people cream their fucking jeans, but gave me the cringe. Also grasps at straws near the end.

Seven Psychopaths (2012)

Reminds me a lot of 50s pop art, it's head is so far up its own ass it re-emerges out of the whole upper torso area where the head normally is, so it appears as just a pretty decent movie. Really likable cast. I think this movie wants me to care more about it than it warrants.

Back to the Future (1985)

Great Scat! 2 hours ago I expected to lazily half-watch it while doing a cheeky bit of internet and it completely sucked me in. I actually found myself shouting at the TV near the end. I'm really not one for classics but this is a new favorite for me. keeping the 95 quo.

Her (2013)

One thing found strangely absent from this film is quotable lines. Lacking legacy in its writing doesn't seem to take away from it though. It just feels genuine, no outrageous emotions, but the subdued true-to-life ones. Also Joaquin subtly nails the shit out of every scene.

Mr. Nobody (2009)

It had a lot of themes that interest me, maybe that's why I yearned for it to be better, even though it was well-made. Has the problem of being more into explaining ideas than crafting a real story integrating the ideas. If it had a gripping story it'd have been masterclass.

Just a disclaimer: its not as grungey as the poster makes it look. ||||||||||| Surface level, it seems like there are a lot of different paths that the movie could take. But you know almost exactly what's going to happen. Without that its just run-of-the-mill torture porn.

Curse of Chucky (2013)

It's not good, guys. I was partially promised it would be, so I interpreted anything even remotely positive as something slightly more than neat. Which it isn't either. You weren't even going to know this existed, but now that you do, don't even think it will be good.

Gravity (2013)

The most thrilling and immersive use of 3-D I have ever seen (I have not yet seen Life of Pi in 3D). Amazingly long rolling shots and absolutely breathtaking directing met with dialogue that, not feeling redundant, did not have the same gravitas or pull.
October 13, 2013

Catfish (2010)

I find it chop-smacking that thousands of writers and directors every year can't come up with a more compelling and insightful story than something that actually happened. Its a bit tragic, very heart-warming, and will probably be heavy on my mind for the next couple minutes.

You're Next (2011)

I seriously dug how rightly done the first completely chaotic half was, and after that the creeping suspense it puts out makes it tense as hell. But then it went from creepy-scary climax to power-fantasy climax. Still alright, but shifted to something I didn't want as much.

Detention (2011)

Movies with high energy that actually give a shit are always a treat. My hangups on some of the dialogue being a bit "Disney-teen" were completely out-weighed by the overload of semi-interesting ideas shown in a pretty fun way. Hemorrhages entertainment.

Hostel: Part III (2011)

There is a very fascinating side venture to this movie. One side character, so universally likable that he seems to warp the movie around him (as much as he could be expected to). Aside, Cheesier than other Hostels, though not for lack of trying/creaivityt.

Sinister (2012)

It is what you expect out of a modern horror movie, bit o' mystery, bit o' scary, and in the first half I thought it played its hand very well, but it lost anywhere from a couple to a lot of points when it started getting very unsubtle about what was going on. Cashs in badly.

100

Life of Pi (2012)

Without a doubt the most well made movie I've ever seen. Scenes that I was dreading for looking cliche (from foreknowledge from having a read of the book) were done in insane magnificence. I don't know how people will still be able to make movies without feeling shame.
March 18, 2013
91

Dark Nemesis (2011)

Don't even need to! I know how great this movie is. Cures the Batman Syndrome it had from the last film. Showcases performances and lines that I will not forget for years. I doubt this level of excellence will be brought to a comic book character again.
March 16, 2013
58

The Amazing Spider-Man (1977)

I'll compare this movie to Fast and Furious, its attempted seriousness enunciates how stupid it is. I'm not talking about snaps thrown into fight scenes, just general plot that is beyond ridiculous. Bleah, I need to re-watch The Dark Knight after this one.
March 16, 2013
28

The Collection (2012)

This is a sequel where they carried over almost none of the good parts from the first and amplified the parts that just made me ill. I thought the first one was genuinely smart sometimes, because there were constraints that it had to follow. This one has none. Shit ensues.
March 1, 2013
82

Argo (2012)

I'll give my commendations to the directing for the intensity it was able to inject into scenes, scenes that couldn't be easily cranked up through other means. I guarantee you will be surprised by how much you are pumped up by this movie. Practically a thriller in nature.

Twilight (2008)

I have never seen any twilight movie, nor will I. But I must publicly bash this movie at every opportunity I get. Watch as I dislike something that I should clearly dislike. Watch!!! As I angrily and valiantly give it a zero despite having nothing but apathy for it! trendy

54

Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

It feels checklisted, like he created his own set of rules he had to follow to make this movie, all of them parts of other movies I've seen from him, but mostly bits that only work in moderation. Also I thought the acting should've had birthed some young Razzie winners.
February 21, 2013

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011)

Nicolas Cage is an acting machine, in that he will do literally any script put before his scanners. (I really hope I waited long enough to use this joke, since i stupidly squandered it in a comment, been sitting on it ever since. I think it paid off. Good job, Mikko.)
February 20, 2013
62

Zero Dark Thirty (2012)

Every scene that wasn't the raid scene was an excuse to waste time until the raid scene because they couldn't make the entire movie the raid scene. Amazing detail, but they had to inject things into the movie to make it more conventional (like plot and characters). Uninnovative.
February 17, 2013
52

Secretary (2002)

I really love a lot of the ideas in it, not really taboo ones, but uncomfortable ones at least. But there were so many amateurish moments it squandered a lot of the potential I thought it had walking into it. I would call it an awkward jumble of good movies.
February 16, 2013
88

Twelve Monkeys (1995)

Its odd cyperpunk future bits are very fun to look at, from it being primarily props with that handmade feel to them. The plot itself either intentionally or unintentionally makes you question if what is happening is actually real, which is a first for me. Toppish notch.

Take This Waltz (2011)

I don't feel like i should be able to review this because as I put it on it got shit wrecked in a battle for my attention span with DOTA. But I will say this, I didn't think it was great but I feel it came out perfectly as someone intended in their head.

The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)

For me and a lot of other people this is the Apatow peak of making fun characters and real life seem hilarious and captivating to watch. It almost plays out episodically which I don't count for or against, but it made watching it feel even easier. Anybody can enjoy this.
January 27, 2013
62

Bruce Almighty (2003)

Even though the main character has a slightly worse case of sometimes-a-jealous-and-inattentive-dick syndrome than the usual movie of this type, Carrey can easily cash in his brownie points from other scenes. Also bonus points for having Freeman voice somewhere in there.

Big Stan (2007)

Imagine Let's Go To Prison, as a straight-to-DVD release, with Rob Schneider, and every part of the movie that isn't a rape joke replaced with a rape joke. One of the only movies I feel like I could go lower than 0 on.

76

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)

I don't know why this got less than the usual acclaim. Some very cool shots and uncanny valley CGI effects. Anderson-par cast (which means times better than most). More quest-driven story than usual, also traverses places Wes hasn't gone before. Very enjoyable.
January 19, 2013
94

The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)

For a film about accepting imperfections, I can't see any in it. Wes uses such a similar style in his movies I'd almost start to get sick of it if he wasn't the only person making movies that I enjoy in this manner. Also he doles out amazing lines and scenes like Jolly Ranchers.
January 16, 2013
77

The Darjeeling Limited (2007)

I always find it incredible how much Wes trusts complex character interpretation to the viewer. That and this movie's beautiful sun-drenched aesthetic is what really made me enjoy it. Has amounts of respect for characters, the audience, and culture I never see in movies. Hearthy.

93

The Truman Show (1998)

Its like the role Jim Carrey was born to play. I think that he can be a great seriousish actor, this movie combines that under utilised skill set with his inherrent Jim Carreyness with astounding dramedic results. Intriguing plot as well, with some incredible moments. So good.
January 14, 2013
75

21 Jump Street (2012)

I feel like this movie was 1-2 years late to the party. It has a ton of teen culture references in it that hit their peak 2 years ago. The jokes are pretty funny but I always got the feeling whatever it was had been done before (recently). This isn't a slag, it's alright.
January 13, 2013
68

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

These movies seem pretty damn cluttered to anyone who hasn't read the books. This one is probably my favorite besides the first one due to its magic fights to plot-you-probably-won't-get-without-5-paragraphs-detailing-it ratio. Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhn.

73

Django Unchained (2012)

If there's one thing Quentin knows how to do its to make you feel like the protagonist is totally justified in anything he does, Classic black-and-white, good-and-evil style action flick. What's more hateable than racists? But the cleverness of the film dies after about 2 hours.
December 28, 2012
78

50/50 (2011)

It's an awful movie in reflection or in summary (or at least the type of movie I avoid like cancer). But in the moment its engaging as hell. Got a perfectly contouring cast, and dialogue that all indie movies try to hit with their "Normal people" genre of comedy. Dramedy silver.
December 21, 2012
86

The Cabin in the Woods (2012)

I read the entire Wikipedia plot synopsis before watching this. Even so, in the way it was crafted I still had no idea what was going to happen next. Beautifully paced, amazing original laughs, likable actors, basically everything that's shit about the horror genre done right.
December 21, 2012
68

Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie (2012)

Constantly one-ups itself on the weirdness scale. It plays a bit like rapid-fire Monty-Python mixed with Family Guy, but times more bizarre than either. There are some scenes that literally dropped my jaw. Its not really fun or funny but you should still see it.
December 14, 2012
70

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (2006)

It takes itself with equal piddling amounts of shame and seriousness. The lack of self-respect was actually something I found amusing, makes it feel very personable. One of the guiltiest of all pleasures. If enjoy rolling in mud this movie is worth a watch.
December 8, 2012
84

American Psycho (2000)

I'm never a fan of the dialogue from adapted books. But this movie's central theme makes it work perfectly. Aside from some hilarious narcissism and murder scenes it has some very ponder-worthy insights on appearances. Fun for the whole family, take the kids!
December 7, 2012

Jersey Girl (2004)

This movie is a meta spiritual-sequel to Memento. It is so unmemorable that while watching you will not be able to remember what happened 15 minutes ago.

59

Batman Forever (1995)

A not respected change, but a change for the better with the cartoonishly campyness they've spun the series with. The entire film is worth watching for Jim Carrey. I wouldn't ever watch it intently, but it is good for nice, happy, 90s version of 50s-Batman-esque background noise.
November 27, 2012
55

Batman Returns (1992)

Time Button strikes again. Did this invent the term "Batman Syndrome"? I've seen silent movies with more color than this. Burnon is given some freedom with this one, but he doesn't do anything impressive with it. Slightly cooler story. + points for Walken (always good).
November 27, 2012
53

Batman (1989)

I don't like Tim Burton, he makes up for being pretty shit at storytelling by making up slightly out-of-the-ordinary ideas that can be a bit interesting. Him having to conform to a plot structure is one of the worst tasks you could put him under. Not fun, and this is BATMAN!!!

Se7en (1995)

Incredibly enrapturing, cop movies may always be cliche, but this one is my pick for best of the genre. I'll give this one about a... Se7en...out of 10. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 9/10.

American Beauty (1999)

This was almost my 69th review (haha, pedophilia) but this movie deserves better than me using it for an awful throwaway gag. I'll compare it to a movie I just just reviewed; Adaption, Its similar in gusto but completely serious. Never painful to watch though. Give it a go.

Adaptation. (2002)

A perfect self parody of meta, Kaufman utilizes ideas so seemingly pretentious that they would make me turn it off right before thinking "At least I'm not as insufferable as the guy who made this" and balances them with awareness and self-deprecation to within milligrams. See it.

Looper (2012)

The first half was absolute dynamite. But the psychic-when-angry kid cliche just makes me want to fuck right out of the theater. Bruce Willis was a Hannibal (SOTLambs) of sorts, relatively low screen time, walked away with his performance on the brain. Missed potential GALORE!

Horrible Bosses (2011)

Hmm...........there were maybe 4 jokes in it that nearly made it worth watching. I don't mean that the rest of the movie was shit and there were 4 "shit-your-pants" moments. More like averageness sprinkled with a few pretty good laughs. I can't think of a situation to watch this.

Hall Pass (2011)

This movie tried to be brave, funny, and inventive. Without all the trouble of being brave, funny, or inventive. A rare So-Mediocre-Its-bad movie.

Kevin Smith: Burn in Hell (2012)

Still got a lot of Kevin Smith's funny stuff going on here, but this one is for people who are really into Red State and wanna hear more about it. A bit of a behind the scenes look, A bit of a look at the dev process, all thrown in with the usual business. Good stuff.

The Muppets (2011)

I never realized until I saw this how easily self-aware or meta humor can appeal to any age group. Some awkward jokes, but the Richman rap redeemed it back up to a "great".

Watchmen (2009)

I cannot stress how perfect an adaption of a comic book / ANYTHING this is. They took one of the best comics I've ever read and changed nothing about it (already amazing) except for one plot device they added that for me, made it even better. Watch even if you missed the g-novel.

Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)

Hilarious, if you are 11. I don't even really mean that as an insult. If you have a kid cousin that you need a gift for, this is perfect. There's about 3 laughs if you belong to any other demographic

Fight Club (1999)

Insanely captivating beginning, beginning-middle, and end, your eyes will be wacky glued to the screen. The only qualm I have with this movie is a fairly confusing Middle-end section (only about 15-20 minutes long) but you get back up to speed before the timeless finale. Rad.

Tarnation (2003)

I've tried to get over how narcissistic this is and I really can't. It had me a bit curious the first 20 minutes. That slowly waned as I realized that even if it gives an intriguing perspective, it doesn't give any answers or insight, just more questions. Fine for some people.

Magnolia (1999)

A movie I had to see more than twice to completely get, and that's not a bad thing at all. Cruise stole pretty much every spotlight, though every performance was award-winning. Very interesting, and even among PTA's braver films, this is the most honest piece I've seen from him.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

I considered not giving this "100". I can't not, this is the highest bar for me with movies. Its tragic, funny, thoughtful, has one of the most memorable scores I've ever heard, and screams for re-watches. Not sure if its a masterpiece, but its the best movie I've ever seen.

Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

It almost pissed me off how hard this movie tried to appeal to everyone. Any reference made had to be accessible by almost everybody (as long as you've played a Mario once or twice you're set). Still, its pretty good and not just a shitty panderfest. Worth your time.

Skyfall (2012)

Creative and extremely smooth action sequences. The imagery is absolutely incredible. It delivers everything it promises and is an amazing iteration of the Bond series. The dialogue wasn't to my tastes at all, it was conversations comprised of one-liners, or a serious monologue.

Saw (2004)

This review might as well count for every Saw movie (even more so with the later ones). This film series is at the apex of morbid curiosity. You never want to stop watching no matter how bad the movie is or how shitty it makes you feel. Cool idea, but please don't watch.
